My Name is Melissa. I am a new graduate from Aurora University in Illinois. I graduated on May 5, 2013 not only did I get to celebrate my heritage (Viva Mexico) but I was able to graduate my amazing, long journey to obtain my BA degree. I obtained my degree in Communication minor in criminal justice. I am currently a paralegal at a small law firm in Aurora. My dream is to one day become a successful attorney. This summer I am planning to take a prep course for the LSATs. I am scared and excited at the same time. I want to be a little more confident about this journey to law school.

I am currently reading a book  by Scott Turrow " One L" it has to do with his first year of Law school at Harvard. I hope this can give me some indication as to how Law school may be. I know it takes a lot of dedication but I do work two jobs, attend school and have two kids so that is dedication right?

I have worked for the law firm for over 7 years and did obtain my Associate degree in Paralegal studies so I do have knowledge of the law and have spoken to many attorneys. One attorney tells me not to do it (go to law school) and others tell me they see it in me. But do I see it in me? I'm scared I don't know if I can make it but I definitely have the drive for it. I want it that bad.

Here is the thing. I come from a family of immigrants from Mexico who's education stopped in elementary. I am the first person in the family to earn a BA degree. My average grade in High school was a "C". I have two kids and had them at a very young age. I am also a single mother. Oh yes I am also a woman. So I am an average young, Hispanic woman, single mother of two who wants to make it in the world of Law. You don't see too many of that around, so can I make it? If I do it will be the greatest accomplishment of my life time.

So here I will like to continue on my discussion of my journey to becoming a lawyer. It starts now..so law school be ready for me because I am ready for you. All I need is a little support and guidance from those who are there or have been there, hey maybe someone who is willing to get through this together. Maybe blog questions about certain assignments or cases, that would be fun especially if you love the law.

Melissa O.
